AZ Blue member ID prefixes for 2024: What you need to know
For 2024, we’re making several updates to the Blue Cross® Blue Shield® of Arizona (AZ Blue) member ID prefixes (typically the first three characters of the member ID). We’re sharing these changes because using the member ID prefix that corresponds to the date of service is critical for timely claim processing, as well as accurate information for eligibility and benefits.
Here is a quick overview of what we’re doing as we transition into the new plan year:
• Activating several new member ID prefixes
• Discontinuing some prefixes (these will remain active for 2023 service dates)
• Assigning the appropriate prefix for members who select a different benefit plan for 2024

2024 member ID prefix updates 
See the following tables for specific information you can share with your administrative support teams about the 2024 prefix updates.
New prefixes for 2024
Discontinued prefixes – these will remain active for 2023 dates of service
Submit claims with the correct prefix for the date of service 
If you submit a claim using a prefix that isn’t valid for the service date, you will receive a message advising you of the prefix replacement:
"This member’s ID prefix was replaced. Please check the prefix list at azblue.com/prefix and resubmit with the prefix that is valid for this service date."
