Encourage your patients to get recommended mammograms
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—but of course early detection is vital for women year-round.
Be sure to ask, "When was your last mammogram?"
According to the CDC, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the U.S.1 Research findings suggest that physician recommendations are an important factor in women's mammography use.2
Because of increased incidence of breast cancer among women 40-49 years of age, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) issued a May 2023 draft statement recommending routine biennial screening mammograms for all women starting at age 40.3 For patients ages 40-49 at average risk, discuss when to start and how often to get a mammogram. In addition, encourage patients ages 50-74 to schedule a mammogram if they have not had one in the previous two years.
We make it easy
Blue Cross® Blue Shield® of Arizona (AZ Blue) makes it easy for your patients to get screened for breast cancer. Because mammograms are preventive screenings, there are no out-of-pocket costs when AZ Blue members see an in-network mammography provider, including mobile units that make scheduling a mammogram easy and convenient.
Talk with your patients about breast cancer screening today!
